 A local nonprofit organization supporting women in the business arena celebrates its 10th anniversary. When Elizabeth Galecke stares out into a sea of people, she does so with little hesitation. No racing heart. No butterflies in her stomach. The 37-year-old photographer is confident. This new sense of assurance is thanks to Chix in Business, an organization she founded a decade ago that’s designed to educate and offer support to female professionals. From her Raleigh photography studio, she shares how the group has helped her face her fear. “Anytime I’d have to get up and talk to more than three people in a room was the worst thing,” she says. “Never in my life did I think I would get used to it. Now I can stand at a podium and speak and just be comfortable.It’s because I have to stand up in front of the whole organization and talk.”

 

Like Galecke, many other women in the organization boast similar triumphs. There’s Marina Bosetti who found renewed self-confidence and the business knowledge to nurture her company, Bosetti Art Tile. And Kim Walker, owner and marketing director for Peak Automotive in Apex, whose business gained not only a marketing strategy, but a mounting customer base since joining Chix two years ago.
